deer bloThe harsh winter can be hard on the wildlife in the snow-covered hills of the highlands , many of the weak or sick red deer will die if the snow cover lasts to long. While bad news for the deer this can create rich pickings for the local predators such as Sea Eagles ,Golden Eagles ,Foxes and even Badgers. In cold weather more deer come down from the hills and come into contact with traffic on the roads, this can make driving at night around here quite exciting.

Robins are extremely territorial birds ,they defend there patch of garden against any bird big or small that is seen as a threat . This one seemed to be seeing if an old pot in the bushes would make a good nest site for later in the season. Shot with a 600mm canon lens with extension tube.

Stag

As the weather in the highlands of Scotland gets colder the red deer come down from the hills into the valleys .Many any are killed on roads each year ,a fully grown stag is a big beast and can do a great deal of damage to a car as I know to my cost , but they are beautiful animals and its almost always a pleasure to see them.

December Otter
